This is a list of the key stages and considerations involved in finding a new role. If you have any further questions, contact us.

Time for a change?

In deciding on the next step in your career, you need to have a plan involving an idea of your preferred industry sector, role, location and salary package. In our experience, a company's work culture is a crucial consideration as this often determines your level of job satisfaction.

Larger organisations

Working for larger organisations can often mean perceived job security and a clearly defined progression path. You will often gain deeper experience in a chosen field and training that relates to specific skills. Larger organisations work on a larger scale, which adds certain skills and scope to your future prospects in other companies of a similar size and turnover.

Smaller organisations

Smaller organisations can often offer more autonomy and breadth in the roles they offer. You may have more access to and therefore experience of converging job functions and departments, providing a better operational perspective. This can mean more responsibility for delivering on agreed objectives, which in turn provides you with a wider range of skills.

Staying put

The advantages of staying with your current employer are that you will be familiar with the working culture, people and operational processes, which gives you an advantage when applying for new roles over those applying externally. However, you may have to wait for the right role to present itself.  Be open minded and direct when applying for promotion. Your employer should always be aware of your ambitions without you appearing as though you are looking to replace someone in particular.

New pastures

If progression or change is something you can't find with your current employer, you will be considering alternative employers. Registering with Hayden Marsh means that we can begin to develop an understanding of your expectations and aspirations whilst we get to know you as an individual. Our most successful job placements are borne from deep understanding and mutual trust. Moving to a different organisation requires precise planning and reflection and we always ask our candidates to work closely with us so we get it right the first time.

Career change

Changing career usually means having transferable skills and experience that gives you value in a career that is particularly or substantially/ substantively different from your current career. Retraining can be an interesting prospect and provide you with renewed vigour. However, a person's market value is usually dictated by industry specific skills and experience, so a change in career will often mean a change in salary package. We will advise you each step of the way, helping you to determine the best way forward.
